Pre-School for Special Needs Children

At RTLA, we have services and facilities for persons with intellectual disabilities for most age groups. We work with the very young in our early intervention program, as well as with adults in our vocational workshops and residential services. However, we currently don’t have facilities for preschool children who need to be prepared for the school experience, be it in regular schools that have an integration program, or in other centers and NGOs which only accept children with special needs starting from the age of 6 or 7. For this reason, we would like to start a small pre-school for persons with special needs, in order to provide them with the care and training they would need to later attend other schools or centers. With our know- how in the field, this facility would help their smooth transition into other schools by providing them with different training and educational programs that would improve their performance and help them to smoothly make the transition from the home experience to a regular school experience. We have appointed the Manager of the project, who is an experienced special education teacher from the Association and has over 15 years experience in the field, and partially furnished one classroom

Teachers Training and Development Project

Educate Me Foundation believes that every child should have the opportunity to be educated in a way that allows them to reach their full potential, which is not the case for most Egyptian children in underprivileged communities who either enroll in public education or do not have access to any schools. Among the most obvious reasons are under-resourced learning environments, & poor teaching quality & expertise. Educate Me believes that educating and developing teachers and child care givers is vital for them to be able to provide children with an impactful and positive education that would enable them to develop from both academic and personal sides. Therefore, Educate Me developed a teacher training and development module that aims at equipping teachers and child care givers in both formal (schools) and informal (centers & NGOs) educational systems with the necessary knowledge required to raise happy, intellectual and healthy children. To reach this objective Educate Me will be training 100 Educators and child care givers from 5 different established educational organizations serving underprivileged children ages 2-18, street children or children at risk from various geographical areas on child Education and psychology which they will use to provide effective educational programs to thousands of children they serve. The project is seeking maximum geographical diversity through training NGOs who work in different governorates and communities. Communities to be impacted through Educational services from trained organizations include Imbaba, Masr elqadima, Mansoureya Villages, among others. Other governorates to be impacted through educational services in their villages include Fayoum, Beni Suef, Alexandria & Mansoura.

Be Burn Aware (First Three Months)

Ahl Masr capitalizes on its knowledge that burns above all are preventable. Most of the burn cases we treat are caused by direct exposure to flames and stoves explosion. Since 2.8 billion Egyptians are still using firewood, dung, coal and unstable gas powered stoves for cooking and keeping warm inside their homes every day and 12.6% live with no separate kitchen with inadequate safety measures. The simplest solution is to replace inefficient, smoky stoves with more efficient, stable ones. Providing people with such improved stoves would save almost 80,000 lives every year. Moreover, because stoves are more efficient, they would save about 30% fuel and make cooking more efficient and healthy. An effective, improved stove and effective burn awareness program to the families are needed to reduce the hazards of burns dramatically. The awareness program against burns is designed with two directions; one dedicated for children and the other designed for adults. The program offers a variety of burn prevention tools, including: Activity Books (ages 3-7) and (ages 8-12), fact cards, scalds awareness and fire safety tips. Ahl Masr will target Beni Suef, governorate in Upper Egypt to use as a sample for our prevention strategy. Ahl Masr will measure the success of this approach and use as a case study to integrate a comprehensive burn prevention and care program into national health plans and policies. Be Burn Aware initiative will foster the involvement of different NGO’s to complete the intervention circle. In addition to our burn module different partnerships will be constructed to provide infrastructure and other safety measurements such as households, water and Energy security. This effective approach will help us support the development of appropriate policy for integrated model for burn prevention and safety nationwide.

Special Olympics Training Program

The ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help individuals with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society at large, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs. At the same time, Special Olympics work to create positive public attitudes toward a population that is often rejected or forgotten. We promote athlete leadership and dedicate the movement to empowerment and dignity, not charity. We try to change negative attitudes and misperceptions about people with intellectual disabilities, replacing stigma and rejection with an emphasis on potential, ability and acceptance.

ICT for Employment of Youth in Ain El-Sira

This project aims at establishing a fixed computer learning center at the heart of the impoverished area of Ain El-Sira in Misr Al-Qadima. The center will provide youth and women of the area with cutting-edge training courses provided by the reputable telecommunications systems corporation "CISCO Systems, Inc." through their CISCO Networking Academy which will train two of the local computer trainers from Ain El-Sira to deliver the training courses to approximately 2150 other trainee only during the first year of operations. The training Course will be divided into two main modules: (1) IT Essentials, (2) Entrepreneurial Skills. Training courses will be paid on installments with an affordable rate to the trainees so that they would be committed to attending the training courses and in order to rerun the operations of the center for the following years. All trainees will be provided by CISCO certificates when they finish the training course. AYB-SD will establish the training center and manage the whole project, while the equipment (laptops and desktops) will be provided by CIL and the training curriculum by CISCO Networking Academy. If awarded the prize, AYB-SD will use the amount of the award as a seed fund to run the operations of the first three months of the project.
